How to Measure Your Sphynx for Clothing — the 60-Second Guide
Share
Getting the fit right is the difference between a piece your cat forgets it's wearing and one that ends up abandoned in a drawer. The good news: you only need three measurements and about sixty seconds. Here is exactly how we do it in the atelier.
What you'll need
A soft tape measure is ideal. No tape? A piece of string and a ruler work just as well — wrap the string, mark it, then measure it flat. Measure while your cat is calm and standing naturally; a treat in front of them helps more than a second pair of hands.
The three measurements
Neck. Measure around the base of the neck, where a collar would naturally sit. Keep it snug but not tight — you should be able to slip a finger underneath.
Chest. Find the widest point of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, and measure all the way around. This is the measurement that matters most for comfort and movement, so take it twice.
Back. Run the tape along the spine from the base of the neck, between the shoulder blades, to the base of the tail. This sets the length of the garment.
Reading the size chart
Match your numbers to our chart:
- XS — Neck 16–18 cm · Chest 28–32 cm · Back 20–24 cm
- S — Neck 18–20 cm · Chest 32–36 cm · Back 24–28 cm
- M — Neck 20–23 cm · Chest 36–41 cm · Back 28–32 cm
- L — Neck 23–26 cm · Chest 41–46 cm · Back 32–36 cm
Between two sizes?
Size up. Cats prefer a little room to stretch, jump and curl, and a Sphynx in particular moves better in a piece that never pulls across the chest. A garment that is a touch generous stays comfortable all day; one that is a fraction too tight gets shrugged off within minutes.
Still unsure
Send us your three measurements and a photo of your cat standing, and we will size the piece for you personally. It is the same check we run on every made-to-order garment before a single cut is made. And if the size still isn't right when it arrives, we exchange it free — always. That is the whole point of measuring carefully: so the piece feels like it was made for your cat, because it was.
